Material and Equipment:
100 count of mixed candy
Dry eraser board and marker

Technology Resources Needed:
Overhead Projector
Computer with internet connection

Background/ Preparation:
The teacher will need to buy a 100 count bag of mixed candy.
The students will need to know how to count from one to ten.

Standards:
Numbers and Operations
Demonstrate computational fluency of basic addition and subtraction facts by identifying sums to 10 and differences with minuends of 10 or less.

Objectives:
In this lesson the students will be able to solve, apply, and identify the concept of adding/subtracting numbers but with candy at a 99.9 percent accuracy.

Introduction:
Students will be using pieces of candy to add and subtract math problems. Then the students will watch a video and demonstrate their knowledge to the class at the end of the lesson.

Activities and Procedures:
1. The teacher will first pass out ten pieces of candy to each student.
2. The teacher will write these problems on the board:
4+6= , 7+3= , 1+9= , 8-4= , 5-2= , 7-5= , 8-6= , 3+3= , 7+1= , 2+8= , 1+2= , 8-2= , and 3+2= .
3. Then the students will separate the candy by putting the first number of pieces on the left and the second number of pieces on the right.
4. The teacher should say to the students to add the candy all together to get the answer to the problem.
5. The teacher will continue these steps for all the addition problems.
6. For the subtraction problems, the teacher will tell the students to put all their pieces of candy together.
7. Then first ask the students to count the first number of pieces out and put the reminder to the side out of the way.
8. Then the teacher will tell the students to count the second number of pieces out and put them on the right.
9. The students will count the first number of pieces to get their answer.
10. The teacher will continue this process for all the subtraction problems.
11. Finally the students are to watch a video linked to the attachments below.
